About the Denver Broncos
John Elway was drafted number one overall by the Denver Broncos in 1983. He played his entire 16-year career with the Broncos leading them to five Super Bowls and two Super Bowl victories. During his hall of fame career his was selected to nine Pro Bowls, threw for more than 51,000 yards, and was named the Most Valuable Player of the 1987 season. Elway and the Broncos lost three Super Bowls by a combined margin of 136 to 40, with each defeat worse than the one before. The team finally broke through in 1997 thanks in large part to running back Terrell Davis. The Broncos repeated as Super Bowl champions in 1998 with Elway winning Super Bowl MVP. It was the quarterback's last game of his legendary NFL career.
The Denver Broncos home stadium is Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The team was founded in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). They joined the NFL in 1970 as part of the NFL-AFL merger. The Broncos are aligned in the AFC West with their fierce rivals the Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, and San Diego Chargers. Some of the all-time great Broncos, besides Elway and Davis, include Floyd Little, Gary Zimmerman, Shannon Sharpe, Karl Mecklenburg, and Steve Atwater. In 2011, quarterback Tim Tebow led the team to a playoff victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
